To nursery school

Children can attend nursery school as soon as they turn 2.5 years of age. Each year, there are various dates at which they can start school. Register your child in advance! Was your child born in 2019? Then register it now, even if it isn't due to start school until 1 September 2022.

Nursery school caters for children between the ages of 2.5 and 6 years. Nursery education is important for your child's development as this is where it will learn to play with other children, to work independently, learn new words, motor skills and plenty more.

The compulsory school age for children was lowered from 6 to 5 years as from the 2020-2021 school year. Nursery school is compulsory for all children who reach the age of 5 years old before the 1ste of January of the school year. For the school year 2021-2022 this means all the children born in 2016.

My child was born in November - December 2019. Should I register it already?

Yes. If your child was born in 2019, you should register it now, even if it is not due to start school until 1 September 2022. What if you decide to wait? The longer you wait, the fewer the places!

My child is going to school already. Do I still need to register it for next school year?

No. Once your child is registered in a school it will remain registered there. Registrations are valid for all the elementary school grades.

Is your child due to go from 3rd infants to the 1st grade of primary school? Or would you like to send it to a different school? In that case, you may have to register your child again.

My child is already on a waiting list. Do I still need to apply for a place?

If your child is on a school's waiting list, the school will contact you if a place opens. If the school has not yet contacted you, we advise you to sign your child up again for the 2021-2022 school year. You can do this on between 1 and 26 March (4 p.m.).
